2. Implementation's characteristics

FixMyStreet is an application created by mySociety, a non-governmental organisation developing websites and tools that actively promote the empowerment of citizens. The FixMyStreet application was originally designed as a tool enabling Great Britain’s inhabitants to report problems.

The software created by mySociety is made available on rights of an open license and, as such, can be used in any place for the benefit of any community. FixMyStreet makes it possible for users to immediately report the identified problems. Most often reported problems include holes in roads, broken paving slabs, street lightings, etc. To use the application, one only has to register on the website. Registration entails providing one’s e-mail address and generating a login password. All registered users can report problems that have occurred in their places of residence or current locations. Each and every report is sent to a person or institution formally responsible for given issues.

The service also generates reports featuring statistics and visualizations of the whole of submitted information in the form an interactive, regularly updated map. Users are informed about the current state of affairs and the type of interventions. They can also leave their comments or propose solutions to particular problems.
